Perinatal Mental Health Consultation for Therapists & Providers
At least 1 in 5 individuals will experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder (or PMAD) in pregnancy or postpartum. Risks are higher for individuals with a history of trauma; loss; depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders; a family history of perinatal mood and anxiety complications; those who experience discrimination and oppression; as well as folks with relationship stressors, recent job or housing changes, and financial stressors. Experiencing a PMAD can create shame, isolation, difficulty bonding with baby among other challenges.
Chances are, if you are a therapist seeing individuals of child-bearing age or you work with families in this time period in another professional capacity, you will find yourself working with a client experiencing perinatal mental health challenges or partnered with someone experiencing a PMAD.

Support your clients with confidenceConsulting with an expert in perinatal mental health saves you time searching for information and resources; allows your client to continue their therapeutic relationship with you; and helps you feel confident in holding the hope for them that they will feel like themselves again.

Common topics include:
- screening and assessment
- differential diagnosis and how perinatal anxiety, OCD, mania, depression, and psychosis* can present
- perinatal intrusive thoughts vs postpartum psychosis*
- local, national and online resources for you and for your clients
- integrating a fat liberation lens into perinatal therapy
- practical intervention ideas drawing from attachment, CBT/DBT, somatic, and interpersonal therapies
- treatment planning, risk assessment and crisis planning
*If you are concerned about your client's safety or the safety of those around them, or they are in active psychosis, your client needs immediate, emergency psychiatric and medical assessment and should be referred to the emergency room.
I can also develop and provide perinatal mental health training workshops or programs for group practices, agencies, and organizations. I'm especially interested in collaborating around initiatives to increase access.
