Consultation

At least 1 in 5 individuals will experience a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder (or PMAD) in pregnancy or postpartum. Risks are higher for individuals with a history of trauma; loss; depression, anxiety and bipolar disorders; a family history of perinatal mood and anxiety complications; those who are part of marginalized groups; as well as folks with relationship stressors, recent job or housing changes, and financial stressors. Experiencing a PMAD can create shame, isolation, difficulty bonding with baby among other challenges.

Chances are, if you are a therapist seeing individuals of child-bearing age, you may find yourself working with a client experiencing perinatal mental health challenges or partnered with someone experiencing a PMAD. Consulting with an expert in perinatal mental health saves you time googling for information and resources; allows your client to continue their therapeutic relationship with you rather than trying to find a new therapist during an already stressful time; and helps you feel confident in holding the hope for them that they will feel more like themselves again.

I love providing consultation with other therapists about perinatal mental health. Common topics include
  • differential diagnosis and how perinatal anxiety, OCD, mania, depression, and psychosis* can present
  • perinatal intrusive thoughts vs postpartum psychosis*
  • local, national and online resources for you and for your clients
  • practical intervention ideas drawing from attachment, CBT/DBT, and interpersonal therapy
  • treatment planning, risk assessment and crisis planning

I can also develop and provide training workshops or programs for group practices, agencies, and organizations on perinatal mental health. I'm especially interested in collaborating around initiatives to increase access to perinatal mental health services.
My fee for a 50-minute consultation session, which includes follow up emails and resources we discuss, is $160. For those working in an agency or other setting where you are serving primarily uninsured, low-income, or marginalized populations, I discount the rate to $140. I am committed to making consultation accessible to BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ therapists and keep a limited number of openings for further reduced rates for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clinicians interested in perinatal mental health. Please contact me to discuss further.
*If you are concerned about your client's safety or the safety of those around them, or they are in active psychosis, your client needs immediate, emergency psychiatric and medical assessment and should be referred to the emergency room.
